The Evangelism Department is the evangelistic arm of PENSA Legon that meets on Tuesday at 7pm. It undertakes house-to-house evangelism, street evangelism, market and placard evangelism, gospel rallies, social media evangelism any other specialized areas of evangelism. These include preaching, witnessing, winning and discipling souls, and encouraging church members to participate in the programmes and activities of the Church. It gives members of the Church the opportunity to plan and organize programmes and activities for evangelism in villages, towns and cities and other specialized evangelism- related ministries.
The Department has four Committees namely; Campus Evangelism Committee, responsible for organizing and planning evangelistic outreaches on Campus; Hospitals, Orphanages and Prisons Evangelism (HOPE) Committee, responsible for organizing and planning evangelistic outreaches and donations in hospitals, orphanage homes and prisons; Towns & Villages Committee, responsible for organizing mini missions and other evangelistic outreaches in towns and villages; Schools and Colleges Committee, responsible for coordinating the activities of PENSA Legon Coordinating Schools.
The Evangelism Department of PENSA Legon remains steadfast in its mission to reach the lost, stir spiritual revival, and build a culture of consistent soul-winning among students. In line with our mandate from PENSA Ghana and the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ, we have, over the past months, embarked on a series of impactful evangelistic initiatives. These include Campus Takeover, Harpazo, and our recent Mini Missions.
1. Campus Takeover: A Week of Divine Encounter and Soul Harvest
Campus Takeover is a national initiative by PENSA Ghana – a flagship evangelistic program characterized by a full week of intensive outreach and soul-winning activities. This year’s Campus Takeover at the University of Ghana was a tremendous success, marked by fervent prayer, strategic evangelism, and strong student involvement.
The week featured various soul-winning efforts including one-on-one evangelism, hostel visitations, gospel outreaches at strategic locations on campus, and powerful revival services. Each day was themed and designed to target the spiritual needs of both believers and unbelievers on campus.
By the grace of God, numerous souls were won to Christ, and many students rededicated their lives to the Lord. The program did not only touch the lives of the unsaved, but also stirred up a fresh burden for souls among the members of PENSA Legon. The testimonies and visible transformation that followed are a testament to God’s mighty hand at work through this program.
2. Harpazo: Seizing Souls Right After the Service
On the 22nd of June, the PENSA Legon in collaboration with Evangelism Department launched its first Harpazo session, aligning with PENSA Ghana's national directive. Harpazo, derived from the Greek word meaning “to snatch or seize,” is a dynamic evangelism strategy that involves aggressive one-on-one soul-winning immediately after church services.
Right after Sunday service, our members moved out in groups and pairs to nearby locations such as halls, hostels, lecture blocks, and common walkways, engaging individuals in personal evangelistic conversations. With boldness, compassion, and the help of the Holy Spirit, the team shared the gospel with many and led several to Christ.
This initiative redefined our understanding of intentional evangelism and highlighted the power of acting immediately upon the Word received in service. The passion and willingness exhibited by members were heartwarming, and we look forward to institutionalizing Harpazo as a regular soul-winning model.
3. Mini Missions at Akporman District – Haatso Area
On the 25th and 26th of July, the Evangelism Department organized a two-day mini missions outreach to the Akporman District, located in the Haatso area of Accra. This was part of our ongoing partnership with local churches and communities outside the campus, aimed at extending the gospel beyond the university.
The outreach involved:
House-to-house evangelism
Street witnessing
Evening Rally sessions
The reception from the community was welcoming, and many were open to hearing the gospel. By God’s grace, several individuals made decisions to follow Christ, and the seed of salvation was sown in many hearts.
What was even more encouraging was the high level of member participation. Students, despite academic demands and other obligations, availed themselves and poured out their hearts in labor for the Lord. Their joy and satisfaction in reaching the unreached affirmed that missions are not a burden, but a divine privilege.
4. Schools Outreach to Tertiary Institution
As part of our long-term evangelistic vision, the Evangelism Department has also prioritized school outreach. In recent months, we have intensified our visits to our coordinating senior high schools and have newly included several basic schools within our reach.
These school visits have been deeply impactful. During each session, we engage students with the Word of God through:
-
Focused preaching and teaching
-
Interactive gospel-centered discussions
-
Mentorship and counselling
-
Spirit-filled ministration and prayer
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Teachers and school administrators have testified of the spiritual transformation they’ve seen in their students. Many of these young souls have surrendered their lives to Christ, and we are following up to ensure that they are discipled and grounded in the faith.
This strategic move to include basic schools is a response to the growing need to plant seeds of truth and righteousness early in the lives of children. We believe that early exposure to the gospel will prepare a generation of godly leaders and torchbearers.
The Evangelism Department of PENSA Legon is on fire for the Lord. Through Campus Takeover, Harpazo, and Mini Missions, we have witnessed the transforming power of the gospel in real time. The testimonies, spiritual growth, and soul impact continue to inspire us to press on.
We are committed to:
Increasing training for personal and group evangelism
Organizing regular outreach programs both on and off campus
Partnering with local districts and communities
Raising a generation of bold witnesses for Christ
Indeed, the harvest is still plentiful, and the laborers are rising. We believe God is setting us up for greater evangelistic exploits. The Evangelism Department remains open to all who are passionate about soul-winning, and we invite every member to join in this kingdom assignment.
